TSA going down to Mexico allows our rods, flies & reels in carry-on; but coming home they, all "MUST" be in
your checked luggage.
Equipment:
Rods' weights: 7-10 wt. We bring 3 rods. I prefer 7 - 9 wt. due to the poppers.
Fly lines: Overweight line weight to rod (such as 8 wt. rod use 10 wt. line) some manufacturers already do this increase...
Fly line types: Intermediate, floating and full sink; our favorites are floating and then intermediate.
Flies & poppers: Bring: poppers: blue/white, black/white or yellow/white, red/white, all black as well, gummy minnows,
minnow imitations, clousers: olive/white, brown/white, chartreuse/white.
black woolly buggers: also, black leaches with red or olive all work very well!!
Rod socks: Essential for protecting rigged rods while in the boat or walking to and from the boat.
Finger Stripping Guard: Important to protect your fingers from line burns from the continuous stripping of fly line over your line finger & the catch.
Line clippers, pliers, and hook file/sharpener: These are absolutely essential.
Lenses Wipes: Great for removing water spots, sweat, sunscreen, etc. from sunglasses while out on the water.
Hand Towel: Very useful for cushioning rods during rough boat rides and/or wiping fish slimed hands.
First Aid Kit: Essential when minor first aid is needed while on the water.
Sprays/lotions: Bug spray, sunscreen.
Clothing:
Lightweight clothing, sun hats, sunglasses, extra sunglasses, buff and hospital socks to eliminate slipping on boat.
Packing: lightweight clothing; washing provided daily. Cold mornings crossing the lake in the fog; thus, vests
& raincoat is what we wear.
Luggage: Name Tags on "all" luggage...even carry on.
At the airport in Mazatlán:
You will be greeted by an "Angler's Inn representative" holding an Angler's Inn sign saying, "Pat Sleeper or Angler's Inn".
As soon as everyone from the group has assembled with their luggage for the vans, you will be transported to the lodge.
Be sure to tip your helpers at the airport (porters); AND, at the lodge (drivers $10.00 and handlers $5.00) pp... Thank you.
Ride to the lodge, this takes about 1 hr...+ depending on stops. We will stop if needed for personal needs; and drinks will be in
the van for consumption during the ride.
Your host's name at Lake Picachos is Jose; Jovonie is our cook and Omar is our bartender.
On Your arrival at the facility, you will be greeted with a margarita. It may be hard to carry your luggage and drink; thus, just take your drink & pick-out "your" room for your stay first; You will be given choices of which room you want; some rooms have taller entry doors; please leave those to the taller people...thank you. Return back to the van and inform the next available helper of your room number. This will go rather fast...they will need to move the van right away for the next van to off load. Sandwiches will be handed out...please let them know right away if you do or don't want one or two sandwiches at that time to eat before fishing that evening... Thank you!
Unpacking and setting up your rods right away is important...you'll be surprised how fast time flies...and.....…You may "fish" the day you arrive,
it's in your package.
Wi-Fi is available off and on...not dependable.
Electrical plug-ins at the lodge are like the U.S.
Fishing the evening of arrival at Lodge...has been a bonus.
This is a fun fishing trip that lasts two - three hours depending on what time you get on the water...usually back by 5:30p.m.
What time do you want your coffee wakeup call? And how do you want your coffee or tea fixed?
Generally, we get up at about 5:00am with a knock at the door and a cup of coffee just the way you want it.
A full breakfast is available buffet style @ 5:00am. Pancakes, Omelets and fried eggs at request; bacon, sausage, hash browns, scrambled eggs or sliced fried potatoes, fresh fruit are usual buffet selections.
Daily we leave the lodge seeing the sun coming up; You, will generally board the boat from a little dock.
At the end of the trip, you will want to tip: your cook, servers, laundry people and cleaning lady in one envelope provided, usually $150. pp.,
for the facility envelope; and....
Guides tip: Tip them daily @ $40. and up depending on your day, each day per person; thus, $80. per day for the both of you and up.
